Published March 2026:  USDA Thrifty Food Plan

According to this plan, our family’s weekly budget is $192.80.  Since June  has 4 Sundays, our monthly budget is $771.20.   With my son’s Court of Honor coming up, we’re planning ahead so the refreshment costs don’t catch us off guard.

Rather than scrambling at the last minute, I’m taking a slow‑and‑steady approach: strategic purchases over the next two months and rolling any leftover grocery money into a small sinking fund dedicated to the event.

Grocery Shopping Tip:

  • Leveraging your Money:   Leveraging your grocery budget sometimes means striking while the iron—and the sale—is hot.  This week Kroger is running a great deal on Mio water enhancer, a staple in our house since both my son and husband use it regularly.  The Mio price is roughly half of its normal price and even cheaper than the generic brands.      It is the perfect week to stock up for the summer.

  • Last week, however, told a different story. We made a major Costco stock‑up trip, and while we did score a few genuinely good deals, the total still made a noticeable dent in our monthly budget. On top of that, I picked up about $10 worth of items to donate to our church’s Vacation Bible School program. All good things—but they add up. When I combined the Costco haul with our regular weekly shopping, I recalculated what we have left for the rest of the month. The result: our weekly target is now $151.87. It’s tighter than usual, but manageable with a little planning and intentional spending.

Budget Tracking:

  • Week 1: Walmart: $5.74 + Costco: $166.35= $172.09

      Aldi: $36.59 + Kroger: 76.35 + Meijer:$30.60 = 143.54

               Total = 172.09 + 143.54 = 315.59

  • Week 2: Kroger: $69,02 + Meijer: $29.57 + Aldi: $34.88 = $133.47

Running Total:  $771.20 - $449.06 = $322.14
