The Frugal Five: #68

 The Frugal Five: #68

With inflation on the rise and salaries not increasing, our ability to make ends meet keeps going down.    Therefore, we must be more careful with our money.   The Frugal Five is a series where we celebrate the daily or weekly activities that help us live a frugal life.

1- Take Pantry and Refrigerator Inventory

Using our Pantry is essential in curbing our grocery budget.    We have an entire pantry full of food, but we keep buying more, so this week, I took an inventory and planned our meals around what we already had.

2- Pre-planning for busy nights

This week I have tutoring and conferences on top of my son’s swim practice and Boy Scout commitments.    We are trying to not eat out, but it’s hard.     So, instead of planning regular dinners for each day this week, I planned for the typical busy nights.    After looking through Pinterest and other cookbooks, I came up with a few crock pot recipes to use.   We are trying Chicken and noodles, and Kielbasa with peppers and onions.   Hopefully, this has kept us from ordering out.

3- Picked up Loss Leaders

Last week eggs were a great price, so I picked up 5 cartons (18 count) which will last us 3-4 weeks.    This week chicken and 93% lean ground beef are at rock-bottom prices, so I am picking up as much as I can pack into my freezer.

4- Garden Harvest

We are still getting vegetables from the garden.  Therefore canning is on the activity list this weekend again and using items from the garden is essential for decreasing our grocery bill.    Last week, we made gravy and this week, we will be stocking the shelves with salsa.

5- Downloading Free Activities for my Students

I have a lot of students who need a lot of hands-on activities.    Instead of trying to create all of the activities myself, I turned to Teachers-Pay-Teachers for ideas and free downloads.     By taking advantage of this site, I was able to create several activities for just the cost of the materials.   This is a wonderful gift and I am thankful for it.

What Free-bees have you been able to pick up this year?    My August was a little weak, because of how busy our life has been.     September is already better than August, so I am confident of making my goals this year.

Since March has 4 weeks, our monthly budget is $757.20.   We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.    Grocery Shopping Tip:     Utilize your grocery store’s loyalty program. This month, my 2 primary grocery stores have provided me with store coupons for bread, Silk milk, jelly candy, frozen vegetables, and Bali coconut water.  Here is what we did this week to make our week easier: ...
