Frugal Five: #62

 The Frugal Five: #62

With inflation on the rise and our salaries being unable to keep up, it seems like we have taken a pay cut and must be more careful with our money.   The Frugal Five is a series where we celebrate the daily or weekly activities that help us live a frugal life.

1- Free-Bee Pickup

This was a great week to pick up some Freebees.   I was able to get Meijer’s chicken broth (48 oz), 4 makeup items, 2 deodorants, and 2 arts and crafts items for free.     I am trying to work ahead with my holiday gifts and personal care items.

2- Pantry Cooking

We work really hard to stock our pantry with items when they are at the lowest price.     Therefore, to maximize our money, it is important to use these products in our weekly meal plan.   This week, we are using pasta and canned tomatoes from the pantry and sausage from the freezer.

  3- Company Picnic

My husband’s company had its annual company picnic this past week, and it was terrific.  It was filled with good food and great people.   We had a wonderful time.

4- Free Entertainment

Summer is winding down and free entertainment is starting to dry up.   The concerts and movies in the park are coming to the end of their season, so we will need to look towards other opportunities.    Museums usually have at least one day when they are open and free to the public.    In addition, metro parks have a variety of different events that families can participate in for free.   Finally, if you are stuck in the house, you can watch free tv shows and movies on Roku, Tubi, or Freevee.

5- Cut my Husbands hair again

Since haircuts are $30 per cut plus tip, each time my husband asks me to cut his hair, I am happy to.    This is a huge savings!   He gets his hair cut every other week, so on average, we save $60 per month on just his haircuts.   I love saving money with only a little effort.

What Free-bees have you been able to pick up this year?    My June has been a little weak, but the rest of the year was strong.     July is rebounding, so I am confident of making my goals this year.    Here is my list:

July- August 2023- Living Large in the Cheap Seats is out.   Our area is rich in artistic events.   It has free concerts, movies, and museum events to take in.  There are events for all ages and interests.

Check out all of the free or cheap things to do in the Cincinnati area or just for ideas of where to look for free/cheap things in your area. Check back next week for the August-September 2023: Living Large in the Cheap Seats Post.
