Free Friday- June 26

Making small changes that have big results.

Living the Good Life On A Budget can happen with small changes repeated weekly.
When combining picking up free items and frugal living tips, your life can be
transformed.   Here are some ideas as to how you can make some small changes that
will have HUGE results over the course of a year.

On Friday’s I share a few frugal ideas to help you maintain The Sweet Life on a
Budget along with my money saving deals.  Although I do not advocate shopping at a
large number of stores during this health crisis, if you are going to a particular store
that has a deal- just pick it up too.    Knowledge is power.

Leftovers-  We use our Leftovers for lunches the next day.   Most of the time my husband
claims these tasty tidbits.

Garden Happiness-   My garden is producing a ton of lettuces and herbs.   In an effort to
preserve them for the upcoming year, I air dry them in the sun.    I just place them on a
cookie drying sheet and then place on a table in a sunny window area.   Once completely
dry, I will place them in containers to use throughout the year.

Basil- Italian Dishes
Mints- Teas
Oregano and parsley- Variety of dishes

Elegant Lunch- I was in the mood for an Apple Pfannkuchen (AKA German Apple
Pancake).   I was delighted to have this for lunch with some strawberries.
Are you interested in making this too?    No problem, here is the link:

Our Rich Backyard-  Our yard continues to be graced by ducks, geese, bunnies and a
plethora of birds.     It is teaming with life and we enjoy lazy summer days and nights just
sitting out on our patio and watching their shenanigans.

Careful Deal Finding- Over the past month, I have been careful with not going to many
stores during this time of staying at home and I wouldn’t encourage anyone to be out and
about unnecessarily because of the health impact.   However, if I am going to the store for a
particular reason, then I try to pick up my deals.     The deals are very small in number, but I
am grateful for any deal during this time.

FREE COMIC Book Summer

Free Comic Book Day is traditionally scheduled to take place the first Saturday in May each year. However, the impact and spread of COVID-19 prevented the event from being celebrated at its normal time this year. Now, the beloved event has been rescheduled and reworked to take place throughout July and early September in order to accommodate social-distancing and store capacity regulations across the country, effectively making it Free Comic Book Summer!
Scheduled to take place between July 15 and September 9, comic shops will receive five to six Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) titles in their weekly shipments during each week of the promotional window.

2025 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

On the USDA Website, their thrifty grocery budgets range from  $25.70 to $72.80 per week ($3.67 - $10.40 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.     With the Bird Flu hitting America hard recently, the egg is no longer a humble star but is turning into a luxury.     A dozen eggs cost $5.49 or $0.46 each.  At this price, I am looking at other options for breakfast.   Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.  The choice is up to you.    NOTE: Prices are for the Northeast area for March 1,  2025 Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.     Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.69 per serving) Kroger Prices Bagels (6ct)- $2...

Menu Plan #287 NOTE-  1- Click on the picture and get a link to a post sharing the recipe.  2- Although all prices were correct at the time of the blog postings, the current cost of preparation of these dishes may be higher due to inflation and location.      August  USDA Low Food Plan According to this plan, our family would have a budget of $185.60 per week.  We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.          Here is what we did this week to make our week easier:   Breakfast Options:  Yogurt Muffins Egg Sandwiches Lunch Options: Grilled Chicken  Salads Chicken Salad Monday Hamburgers Roasted Potatoes Corn  Tuesday Street Tacos Salad Wednesday Enchilada Salad Chips w/ Salsa Thursday Leftovers Friday Chicken Parmesan Pasta Sal...

The Frugal Five: #88

The Frugal Five: #88 With inflation on the rise and salaries not increasing, our ability to make ends meet keeps going down.    Therefore, we must be more careful with our money.   The Frugal Five is a series where we celebrate the daily or weekly activities that help us live a frugal life.     This week I am exploring how to keep costs down during busy weeks.    Keeping dinner on the table instead of eating out is one of my strategies to get the job done.    Here are some of my tips and trips.    1- Free-Bee Pick Up  Over the last month, we have been blessed with several Free-Bees.  First, a friend gave us a dozen eggs from his chickens.  In addition, we picked up several photos with discount codes from Walgreens and CVS.   Next, we used our local grocery store coupons for several free food items such as seltzer water, ice cream, etc.   Then, we picked up toothpaste and eyeliners from ...
