Quiet Luxury Skin Care
Quiet Luxury is an essential part of living the Sweet Life, but is the price tag too much to handle? If you have unlimited funds, then purchasing the best, highest-priced products would be easy. However, most of us are feeling the pinch of inflation, stagnant wages, and concerns regarding the health of the economy, so using our knowledge, creativity, and strategies to get similar results at a much cheaper price tag is important. This is where quiet luxury comes in.
Quiet luxury is a fashion and lifestyle trend characterized by an understanding of elegance, premium materials, and timeless design. However, my version of quiet luxury is getting the most luxurious life while maintaining your financial health.
Look at purchasing products through the pricing triangle. The pricing triangle is a basic concept that allows you to choose 2 of the 3 criteria when purchasing an item. The 3 criteria include: Time, Price, and Quality of Materials/Ingredients. I focus on effort and quality of ingredients. By practicing patience when shopping, you can get the lowest price for quality items. Sometimes this includes shopping in unusual places, but more about that in a later post.
Let’s dig into how to create a facial experience at home on a budget. First, I start with a consistent skincare routine and then add a facial 1 - 2 times per month.
Skincare Routine
Morning
Gentle Cleanser: Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water, for Waterproof Makeup $11.99/13.5 oz
Moisturizer: e.l.f. Daily Hydration Moisturizer→ $9.00
Sunscreen: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Lotion (SPF 70)--> $8.88/3 oz
Evening
Make Up Remover and Cleanser: Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water
Treatment: The Inkey List Retinol ($10)
Moisturizer: e.l.f. Daily Hydration Moisturizer
Total: $40
Monthly Routine (DIY Spa Facial)
Step 1: Remove your Make Up and Cleanse your Skin
Investment:
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water, fro Waterproof Makeup $11.99/13.5 oz→ As a bonus, CVS consistently runs a $2.00 store coupon and sometimes will offer a rebate on this product.
Apply cleanser to your face and clean your face in small circles, rinse and towel dry.
Step 2: Exfoliate your Skin
Investment:
Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening and Exfoliating Face Scrub→ $10.99/5 oz (NOTE: CVS runs sales and deals on a regular basis.)
Beauty 360 Invigorating Apricot Facial Scrub→ $5.19/6 oz
After cleansing your skin, apply the facial scrub and gently rub your face in small circles to remove dead skin. When finished scrubbing, rinse and towel dry.
Step 3: Steam your Face
Option 1: The typical DIY method is to bring about 1 liter of water to a boil, then pour it into a bowl. Let the water cool for about a minute before placing your face about a foot away from the water. Place a towel over my head to maintain the steam and intensify the experience. Be careful because the experience can get hot quickly.
Option 2: Facial stemers are available online. The steamers range from $40.00 - $150.00. When using steamers, follow their instructions.
Step 4: Face mask
Investment: I use a variety of masks based on sales, coupons, and rebates.
Follow individual mask instructions.
Step 5: Tone your skin
Investment: e.l.g. Keeping Your Balance Toner→ $9.00/5.07 oz
To reduce waste, use your hands instead of a cotton pad. Place a few drops in the palm of your hand, rub together and pat the toner on your entire face. Let the product dry before applying moisturizer.
Step 6: Moisturize
Investment: e.l.f. Daily Hydration Moisturizer→ $9.00/2.53 fl. oz.
Rub the moisturizer in layers on your skin from the top of your face down to your chin. By applying in layers, you are giving the moisturizer time to sink into your skin.
Step 7: Jade Roller
Investment: A Jade Roller is a beauty tool with a smooth, round stone attached to a handle, which is rolled across your skin. Jade Rollers range from $6.00 to $45.00.
The purpose of using a Jade Roller is to get your blood flowing in your face and de-puff your skin by pushing the lymphatic fluids through your skin. The best technique works from the center of your face, rolling up and outwards in circles. Use firm but not severe pressure when rolling.
Pro Tips:
If the process hurts, you're rolling too hard; reduce the pressure.
Always roll upwards, not down.
