National Donut Day- 2025




National Donut Day stems from the Salvation Army’s efforts during World War I to provide a comforting meal to the soldiers.   A group of volunteers soon discovered that serving donuts to the troops was the best option given their challenge of cooking in the field.     These volunteers soon became known as the donut “lassies”.     


In 1938, Donut Day was established to honor the volunteers who provided comfort to the soldiers.    Nowadays, donut day is celebrated by donut shops around the country, offering a free donut to every customer.      Donut Day is the first Friday of June each year.    This year it will be celebrated on June 6, 2025.    We have been going to Krispy Kreme for years to celebrate Donut Day and plan to do so again this year.

Duck Donuts

For National Donut Day 2025, look for Duck Donuts to celebrate by giving a free Cinnamon Sugar Donut to in-restaurant guests.

Dunkin’

Dunkin’ will likely have a free Classic donut with every beverage purchase deal on National Donut Day

Krispy Kreme

On National Donut Day (June 6, 2025), Krispy Kreme will give customers a free donut (excludes special or limited-edition doughnuts), no purchase necessary. Look for them to also offer a discounted Original Glazed Dozen with a purchase of any dozen doughnuts in-store or drive-thru.

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons will likely offer rewards to members who buy a donut on National Donut Day, a free donut on their next visit.
