 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

The USDA Website grocery budgets range from $25.00 to $71.90 per week ($3.57 - $10.17 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.

Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.    The choice is yours.

Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.

Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.72 per serving)

Kroger Prices

Bagels (6ct)- $2.79 or $0.47 each

Cream Cheese (8oz)- $1.99

Single Serving (1 oz): $0.25

Kroger Prices

Eggs (12 ct)- $1.79

Single Serving: $0.15 x 2 = $0.30

Toast (20 slices) - $1.99

Butter (1 pound) -$4.29

Single Serving (1 tablespoon) = $0.14

*PRO TIP- I can find cereals for less than $0.33 per serving by using sales, coupons, and IBOTTA.  If you can find these deals, then you will pick up name brand cereal and come out with a cheaper breakfast option.

Hard Boiled Eggs and Banana ($0.53 per serving)

Kroger Prices:

Eggs (12 ct)- $1.79

Single Serving: $0.15 x 2 = $0.30

Banana (estimated price)- $0.23

Yogurt Cup and Banana/Apple ($0.83 to $1.35 per serving)

Kroger Prices

Yogurt Cup- $0.60

Apple (estimated price)- $0.75

Banana (estimated price)- $0.23

* PRO TIP- I find single yogurt cups on sale or through using coupons for $0.50 regularly.   In addition, if you select a smaller apple, then that will also lower the price.    I think it is within reason to get this meal at around $1.00.

*PRO TIP- If you have an Aldi in your area, try their bagels because they are consistently cheaper than Kroger’s.   However, pay attention to your sale flyers and stock up when the prices dip lower than Aldi’s.

It is important to note that the prices per serving have significantly gone up over the past year.

What is your favorite breakfast?
