Living Large In The Cheap Seats- April 2023

I was first introduced to Living Large In the Cheap Seats by a college friend, Chris J., who introduced me to lawn tickets for popular bands.   We were able to see great concerts at a significantly discounted rate.   Later when reading Brokenomics by Dina Gachman, I revised this concept and decided to share it with you.  I have been doing this for years and have been able to enjoy wonderful experiences for FREE!

National Parks are one of America’s treasures and are enjoyed by many.     Although some parks are free to the public, others charge entrance fees.    However, five times a year our National Park Service offers Free Entrance to over 400 National Parks.  I like to take advantage of these days to see the parks which normally have entrance fees.  It offers me and my family a chance to widen our experiences.

However, if you love going to National Parks and traveling throughout the United States, it may be in your best interest to invest $80.00 for an American the Beautiful National Park and Recreational Pass.   This pass will provide you with entrance to over 2,000 National Recreational areas.

Free Entrance Days include the following:

  • April 22: First day of National Park Week

  • August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act

  • September 23: National Public Lands Day

  • November 11: Veterans Day

Memorial Day Parade

VFW Post 7697 and American Legion Post 681

Memorial Day ceremonies in West Chester are planned each year by local veterans groups VFW Post 7696 and American Legion Post 681. On Saturday morning, scout groups participate in the Setting of the Flags to mark the graves of U.S. military veterans buried at West Chester Cemetery (also known as Brookside Cemetery). On Monday, a morning Memorial Day Parade makes its way through the historic Olde West Chester business district to the cemetery on West Chester Road for a special remembrance ceremony. While the parade is in motion, members of the West Chester ~ Union Township Historical Society read aloud the names of all veterans interred at the cemetery where more than 700 are laid to rest, including 100 Civil War veterans and one Revolutionary War veteran.

Keehner Park Concert Series

The Keehner Park concerts are 7-9 p.m. on select Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day at the Keehner Park Amphitheater.  The free concerts welcome all guests to pack a picnic for the evening.  Sorry, but alcohol is NOT permitted.

2025 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

On the USDA Website, their thrifty grocery budgets range from  $25.70 to $72.80 per week ($3.67 - $10.40 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.     With the Bird Flu hitting America hard recently, the egg is no longer a humble star but is turning into a luxury.     A dozen eggs cost $5.49 or $0.46 each.  At this price, I am looking at other options for breakfast.   Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.  The choice is up to you.    NOTE: Prices are for the Northeast area for March 1,  2025 Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.     Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.69 per serving) Kroger Prices Bagels (6ct)- $2...
