Christmas Is Not An Emergency- 2021

Each year I try to hold back a little money at Christmas time, so I can take advantage of the after Christmas sales.    Now this year, my usual places have been a little slow to place their items on deep discounts, but let's see what I was able to save.

Although this looks like a really went overboard on frivolous things, wait until you judge me.

Tissues

The small boxes of tissues are Kleenex brand, 3 ply and a count of 55.   Kroger had these boxes marked down to $0.89 each and gave me a 5 times digital coupon for $0.50 off each.      This brought my cost down to $0.39 each or  $0.007 per tissue. The cheapest I can find tissues during the year is for 3 ply, 120 count,  box of Meijer’s tissues for $1.00 each or $0.008 each.    In 2020, it was difficult to find the Meijer’s rock bottom price, so our closet is a little bare.   Therefore, I picked up the Christmas boxes of tissues but counted the price towards my grocery budget.

Wrapping Paper

Like all people, we like really nice things, but I have a difficult time paying full price for these items.     This year we used 1 roll of our nice wrapping paper, so it needed to be replaced.     We were able to buy this at Kroger on discount for only $1.67.    This is a significant discount on it’s regular price.

Gift Sets

Gift sets are 50% this week.   I was able to pick up an Aveeno gift set for $4.99 and Kroger has a $5.00 Cash Back offer, so it was completely FREE!  Yippy.    In addition, I choose to pick up a men’s grooming set for my son for next Christmas.    This gift came to $4.99 after discounts.     If your Kroger still has Johnson Baby gift sets available, they should be discounted down to $4.99 and with Kroger’s Cash Back offer of $5.00, the price will be FREE.    Unfortunately, my Kroger was out, but maybe you’ll have better luck.

Photo

Throughout the year, I take a variety of different pictures and select the best ones for future gifts.   Then when Walgreens or CVS has a Coupon Code for a FREE Print(s), I put in my order and look for cheap frames at discount or second hand stores.

Stocking Stuffers

I do not pick up candy until much later in the shopping season, but I will pick up things that will keep until the next Christmas.    This week I got lucky because there was a deal on Chapstick.     It cost $1.29 and Shopkicks has a rebate for $3.20 worth of kicks.    FREE!

I still have some money left on a Visa Gift Card that I had received last year as part of my rebate/survey activities, so I am NOT counting any of the items purchased with this card as out of pocket expenses. I will go into how I get these gift cards for free in future posts.

That wraps up this round of Christmas 2021 shopping.   Stay tuned for more suggestions and leave a comment below with your best deals or items for next year.

2025 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

On the USDA Website, their thrifty grocery budgets range from  $25.70 to $72.80 per week ($3.67 - $10.40 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.     With the Bird Flu hitting America hard recently, the egg is no longer a humble star but is turning into a luxury.     A dozen eggs cost $5.49 or $0.46 each.  At this price, I am looking at other options for breakfast.   Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.  The choice is up to you.    NOTE: Prices are for the Northeast area for March 1,  2025 Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.     Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.69 per serving) Kroger Prices Bagels (6ct)- $2...
