Frugal Friday- May 22

Making small changes that have big results.

Living the Good Life On A Budget can happen with small changes repeated weekly.
Here are some ideas as to how you can make some small changes that will have HUGE
results over the course of a year.

On Friday’s I share 5 frugal ideas to help you maintain The Sweet Life on a Budget.
These things will have money saving ideas and/or a way to enhance your lifestyle for
very little money.

Keeping up with your Pennies- I went to the grocery store and when I got home, I realized
that I forgot to give them 2 high value coupons.     OH NO!  I attached the coupons to the
receipt.     While doing my regular grocery shopping, I picked up 10 free items.   In addition,
I found a gift card for my local grocery store.   Both the receipt and the gift card were placed
together w/ the start of my list for next week and we are set to go.     This was a huge
blessing.

Garden Goodness- This week was finally warm enough to plan my seedlings outside, so I
took the plunge and put them in the ground.  I am hoping to be able to grow enough
tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and beans to put some food up for the winter months.    We
will see.   However, our family also volunteered our time to plant for our local church’s food
forest which benefits the local food bank.   This fills my soul.

Our Rich Backyard- The other day, I noticed a family of geese next to our community pond
just foraging around for food.   Their goslings were cute and fluffy.     It brought great joy to
my morning.   On another day, I saw blue herons hanging out at our pond.    From the
bunnies to the birds, our backyard is rich with life.

Careful Deal Finding- Over the past month, I have been careful with not going to many
stores during this time of staying at home and I wouldn’t encourage anyone to be out and
about unnecessarily because of the health impact.   However, if I am going to the store for a
particular reason, then I try to pick up my deals.     The deals are very small in number, but I
am grateful for any deal during this time.

2025 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

On the USDA Website, their thrifty grocery budgets range from  $25.70 to $72.80 per week ($3.67 - $10.40 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.     With the Bird Flu hitting America hard recently, the egg is no longer a humble star but is turning into a luxury.     A dozen eggs cost $5.49 or $0.46 each.  At this price, I am looking at other options for breakfast.   Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.  The choice is up to you.    NOTE: Prices are for the Northeast area for March 1,  2025 Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.     Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.69 per serving) Kroger Prices Bagels (6ct)- $2...
