Frugal Friday- May 1

Making small changes that have big results.

Living the Good Life On A Budget can happen with small changes repeated weekly.
Here are some ideas as to how you can make some small changes that will have HUGE
results over the course of a year.

On Friday’s I share 5 frugal ideas to help you maintain The Sweet Life on a Budget.
These things will have money saving ideas and/or a way to enhance your lifestyle for
very little money.

Home Repair- Since we are still on a stay at home order from our governor, we have
decided to work on our home.   I have researched, spackled, sanded, painted and so much
more.   I may not be the handiest person, but I can do the little things around the house.

Practice Portion Control is becoming a key concept in keeping our grocery bill down.   In
addition, the news is reporting meat packing plants closing, the UN indicating food
shortages are in parts of the world, and with the poor agricultural season last year.  It is
important to be mindful of the current food supply situation in the world and not  be
gluttonous.  We practice portion control across our entire house from meat (4 oz) to toilet
paper.

Leftover Makeover-  This is to either make another meal with the leftovers from a meal, eat
the same meal twice, or just take an ingredient and repurpose it.
We decided to grill out the other day because grilling all of the sausages would not cost any more than just the 3 we needed for dinner.    Now with our portion control, we didn’t eat all of the sausage, but created a second dinner with the leftovers- Jambalaya.
We also planned on eating Hamburgers and Black Bean Burgers this week for 2 nights.   However, instead of doing a leftover makeover, we are just going to eat burgers 2 times this week.
I picked up yeast that didn’t react the same as my usual yeast which created an unique bread when I made it.   So, I made croutons out of the fallen bread.   They are delicious and I didn‘t waste any food.

Garden Love-   Our plants from seed were getting too big for their starter “pots”.
Therefore, we replanted our seedlings, added supports and took them outside on warm
days to harden.  We can’t wait to plant our vegetables and fruit outside.

Careful Deal Finding- Over the past month, I have been careful with not going to many
stores during this time of staying at home and I wouldn’t encourage anyone to be out and
about unnecessarily because of the health impact.   However, if I am going to the store for a
particular reason, then I try to pick up my deals.     The deals are very small in number, but I
am grateful for any deal during this time.

Since March has 4 weeks, our monthly budget is $757.20.   We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.    Grocery Shopping Tip:     Utilize your grocery store’s loyalty program. This month, my 2 primary grocery stores have provided me with store coupons for bread, Silk milk, jelly candy, frozen vegetables, and Bali coconut water.  Here is what we did this week to make our week easier: ...
