Living Large In The Cheap Seats- April 2

Living Large In the Cheap Seats is starting to look a little different given the current state of
crisis the world is experiencing.   The fact that we are being asked to limit our exposure to
groups of people larger than 10 people really impacts our ability to get out and enjoy various
local experiences.   Therefore going out in public is of a low priority in our household for the
time being. However, we are hoping to change that come late spring/early summer.
Therefore, I am going to focus on incorporating a little Hagge into my life with a few Small
Group (aka family based) activities, Virtual Activities and things you can do now in order to
secure more fun for the warmer months.   Well- hopefully.

Add a Little Hygge into your life:
So, what is Hygge?  Hygge is defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable
cheerfulness that causes a feeling of contentment or well-being.”   I believe that Hygge is
living a simpler lifestyle that is filled with contentment and rich relationships, but how do we
get started?

Enjoy Nature:  Nature is a beautiful thing and is available to everyone.    We have a stay at
home order, but are permitted to go out and exercise for about 1 hour a day.   We select our
time carefully to limit our exposure to others and maintain social distancing. In addition, we
try to take in the sun rise or sunset- even if it is just from our patio.

DIY Spa Night
While my boys are engaged in a father/son activity, I take this time to relax with some form of
Spa treatment.  It may be a hot bubble bath or a relaxing foot treatment. Sometimes, I give
myself a facial or do my nails. No matter what it is, I have gotten all the products on sale for
under a dollar and take this time to pamper myself.

Surround yourself with Happy Memories
My family and friends make me the happiest and I have pictures of them or mementos of our
trips throughout our home.  Each time I catch a glimpse of them, I smile and it warms my heart.

Write a letter/Send a Card
I have so much stationary from being given box sets or purchasing stationary over the years that
it will take a long time to use it all.  Writing a thoughtful simple note will brighten someone's day
and will help you to connect with others. I substitute in a large district, so I make a point of
writing a little not to various teacher’s I know in the buildings where I substitute and drop it off in
their box when I arrive at school.  Sometimes, I am even able to add a little chocolate.
This simple act brings me the most joy.

Light some Candles
The autumn and winter months are the darkest of the year.  This creates the atmosphere of
depression, sadness and places people in a funk.  Lighting some candles creates a coziness in
your home that lifts your spirits.

Since March has 4 weeks, our monthly budget is $757.20.   We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.    Grocery Shopping Tip:     Utilize your grocery store’s loyalty program. This month, my 2 primary grocery stores have provided me with store coupons for bread, Silk milk, jelly candy, frozen vegetables, and Bali coconut water.  Here is what we did this week to make our week easier: ...
