Living Large In the Cheap Seats is starting to look a little different given the current state of
crisis the world is experiencing. The fact that we are being asked to limit our exposure to
groups of people larger than 10 people really impacts our ability to get out and enjoy various
local experiences. Therefore going out in public is of a low priority in our household for the
time being. However, we are hoping to change that come late spring/early summer.
Therefore, I am going to focus on incorporating a little Hagge into my life with a few Small
Group (aka family based) activities, Virtual Activities and things you can do now in order to
secure more fun for the warmer months. Well- hopefully.
Add a Little Hygge into your life:
So, what is Hygge? Hygge is defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable
cheerfulness that causes a feeling of contentment or well-being.” I believe that Hygge is
living a simpler lifestyle that is filled with contentment and rich relationships, but how do we
get started?
As the weather is getting warmer in my area, this week we are celebrating transforming your
backyard into a Hygge paradise. Stay home and enjoy!
Alfresco Dining
With the weather getting warmer by the day, it is time to get outside- breath the fresh air. I
know we are keeping our distance, but you can eat outside as a family on your patio. It is
a wonderful change and will help to de-stress your family.
Ornamental Touches
Add a few personal touches to your outdoor space- a statue, mirror, or fountain. I like to add
a little something for everyone in the family. I add various bunnies for my son, while you can
find a small Godzilla protecting my strawberries for my husband. Since I love fountains, I
added a small one for me. Each time we enjoy our outdoor space, we gravitate towards our
special touch.
Lawn Games
Lawn games are very popular where I live and we enjoy them each summer. Our family has
traditional roots in the Italian culture, so Boccie Ball is definitely at my house, but we also have
Nerf battles, Frisbee golf and so much more. Get outside and enjoy life.
Flowers and Scents
A little pop of color or a lovely scent wafting through the air is incredible. Whenever, my senses
are stimulated like this, I instantly de-stress. In the summer, I always move my herbs outside
along with my potted flowers. I can move them around my patio for any occasion and enjoy
them all summer.
Star Gazing
On a clear night there is nothing better than laying on a blanket looking up at the sky. It
doesn’t matter if you are looking for constellations, gazing through a telescope or just
dreaming. There is something about the act of looking at the sky and wondering that just
releases your tension.
I’ve Gotta Move It- Move It!
Go Noodle- Go Noodle provides kids with videos created by child development experts. It
engages kids in mindful movements. I have used it with a variety of different ages (mostly
elementary school age) to serve as a brain break during the school day. It is free for school
or home use. Check it out: https://www.gonoodle.com/
Dance Party- Make a playlist of your favorite youtube music and dance the night away. If
you have a few glow sticks, the night will be a lot more fun.
Wii U Just Dance- If you have the Wii U Just Dance, it will provide you with hours of fun.
Just put it on and let yourself go.
Virtual Dance Party- Hold a virtual dance party with all of your friends.
Radio- Go old school and turn on the radio and enjoy whatever is played. Are you a little
more selective- then select your musical style and go to IHeartRadio.
