Our meals need to be nutritious, clean, flexible, quick and cost effective.
Between our work schedules and after school activities, we need to carefully
plan our meals so that we do not end up ordering out.  


WOW- It’s high this week!    Here is why: 
- Kroger started their 5x digital sale this week,  had great Friday/Saturday
sales and my ability to go out next week for a regular grocery shopping trip is very limited, so we decided to do the bulk of our grocery shopping for this week and next.   The goal is to only need to pick up a few fresh items (e.g. fruit/vegetable) 
-In addition, Meijer has their 10/10 get the 11th free this week and Turkey Burger is included, so with that being half price, we had to pick up enough to get us through to the next time it will be on sale.  


What did we spend? 


Week 1: $187.95
Kroger: $11.26

Kroger cash: $5.50
Hormel Snacks $0.50 x 5 = $2.50
Good Fats $0.75 x 2 = $1.50

Grocery Shopping Tip:


When produce is sold by the bag, it is important to select your bag
carefully.    Since all of the bags are the same price, selecting the
heaviest bag with the freshest produce is key to getting the best value for
your investment.  For example, if 3 lb onion bags are on sale for $1.00,
then check for quality. Finally weigh each bag to see which one weighs
more.   

Here is what I found this week at Meijer:   After selecting the freshest
onions, I weighed them and discovered they ranged in weight from 3.065
to 3.405. Although I didn’t pay any less for the onions, I didn’t pay any
more for almost ½ lb of onions.

2025 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

On the USDA Website, their thrifty grocery budgets range from  $25.70 to $72.80 per week ($3.67 - $10.40 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.     With the Bird Flu hitting America hard recently, the egg is no longer a humble star but is turning into a luxury.     A dozen eggs cost $5.49 or $0.46 each.  At this price, I am looking at other options for breakfast.   Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.  The choice is up to you.    NOTE: Prices are for the Northeast area for March 1,  2025 Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.     Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.69 per serving) Kroger Prices Bagels (6ct)- $2...
