Frugal Fridays- January 18, 2019

Making small changes that have big results.

On Friday’s I share 5 frugal ideas to help you maintain The Sweet Life on a Budget.
These things will have money saving ideas and/or a way to enhance your lifestyle for
very little money.

Our local Cub Scout Troop had an opportunity to take a free class on movie making at
the local Apple Store.  It was a great opportunity and my son loved the event. He got
to learn a new skill, have fun with his friends and create a short movie.  The Apple
Store has tons of camps over the summer which we were able to take part in last year
and plan on doing so again this year.

A Clip from his movie.

Since the grocery budget is getting stretched a lot this week because of my husband’s birthday request, I am
making a lot of things from scratch such as bread and stretching our meat to cover the week.  I will be making
a chicken on Sunday and then using the leftover meat to create an entirely different meal. In addition, we will
be making chicken stock and chicken creole much later in the week. Come and check out my post on What I
Spent and What we Ate post to see more.

I mended several items, so that I could still use them instead of purchasing new ones.  Simple stitching and
use of my sewing machine made quick work of my mending pile.

We had 3 bananas that were getting very rip on our counter.  Instead of throwing them away, we made banana
chip muffins. Yummy.

We tried a generic brand of flavored coffee this week.  Our regular coffee cost $11.99 lb. regular price or $5.99
sale price.  Where as the generic brand cost $7.49 regular price or $3.75 sale price.  Look for the comparison
article of the coffees. We know brewing the Starbucks coffee at home, is clearly the winner in comparison with
buying it by the cup at the store.  However, is the Starbucks brand coffee worth the money in comparison with
the generic brand? The verdict- Yes, Yes Starbucks is worth the price!

What did you do this week to live frugally?  Leave a comment and share with the community.

Since March has 4 weeks, our monthly budget is $757.20.   We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.    Grocery Shopping Tip:     Utilize your grocery store’s loyalty program. This month, my 2 primary grocery stores have provided me with store coupons for bread, Silk milk, jelly candy, frozen vegetables, and Bali coconut water.  Here is what we did this week to make our week easier: ...
