Frugal Friday- January 11

Making small changes that have big results.

On Friday’s I share 5 frugal ideas to help you maintain The Sweet Life on a Budget.
These things will have money saving ideas and/or a way to enhance your lifestyle for
very little money.

Cleaning out my purses resulted in finding a few gift cards from stores that gave me
refunds for various reasons.  Upon checking my Walgreen and CVS accounts, I found
various kinds of bonus funds to use. I found about $10.00 at one and $14.00 at the
other.  Now there is a deadline on spending these funds, so I will need to spend them at
the drug stores either this week or next.
My plan is to use the grocery cards to supplement my grocery budget for non-food
items such as cat food and litter.  That leaves the drug stores. These funds will be used
to stock up on other non-food items such as toilet paper, paper towels, vitamins, etc.

I checked the blogs and you tube videos that broke down various sales, coupon and
rebate combinations this week to see which items will provide the biggest value to our
home.  I noticed that there are a few items I can get for free with coupons this week at
the different stores, so I will definitely take advantage of that. Given my limited funds
this month, it will be important to be very intentional in my grocery spending.

Lunches were packed all week.  Since lunches cost us between $1-2.00 each to make,
but would range from $6-10.00 each to eat out, I would call this a major win.

Volunteering at my son’s school was a great experience, and provided the necessary
table coverage needed so the COSI program could be put on. In gratitude the
PTA provided lunch for the two days.

Practicing portion control not only helps with the grocery budget stay in check but
is a healthier way of eating.  I checked the large bags of snack and discovered that
1 portion is only 1 oz, so I pre-weighed out the snacks and created individual portion
size bags for lunches.  This makes it easy to pack lunches and ensure that the snacks
will stretch 2 weeks. In addition, I was able to purchase large bags of fruit that will
keep for 2 weeks.  This will help to ensure lunches have variety of options.

Leave a comment and let the group know some of your ideas to save money.

Since March has 4 weeks, our monthly budget is $757.20.   We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.    Grocery Shopping Tip:     Utilize your grocery store’s loyalty program. This month, my 2 primary grocery stores have provided me with store coupons for bread, Silk milk, jelly candy, frozen vegetables, and Bali coconut water.  Here is what we did this week to make our week easier: ...
