How do we shop?

I plan out 2 weeks worth of meals with the second week being tentative and subject to adjusting the following week based on what we ate and what is in the pantry.  I shop for staples and stock up items each week.  However, if the things we use are not on sale, we do not have an immediate need and/or money is a little too tight, I will not pick them up.  However, I try to be under my $100.00 per week budget which includes food, household items and pet care times, so when sale items make sense for us to purchase we will have the money in our budget to take advantage of it.

We are a family of 3 (2 adults and 1 child) and  have dietary restricts which require that we try to eat as clean as possible because a lot of processed foods have negative effects on 2 members of our family.  Therefore, we need to eat more fresh fruits, vegetable and higher quality meats.  We attempt eat a few vegetarian meals a week so we can afford the fish meals that are recommended for our family members.   As we are on a journey to eating cleaner and maintaining a reasonable budget, we ask for your patience and support through helpful, creative, and positive comments.

2025 Updated Breakfast Under $1.00

On the USDA Website, their thrifty grocery budgets range from  $25.70 to $72.80 per week ($3.67 - $10.40 per day) per person.   The two factors that determine the amount allocated are age and sex.  With such a small amount of money allocated daily for food and my attempt to eat healthily, I need to plan each week carefully.     With the Bird Flu hitting America hard recently, the egg is no longer a humble star but is turning into a luxury.     A dozen eggs cost $5.49 or $0.46 each.  At this price, I am looking at other options for breakfast.   Breakfast is a great place to add value to your meal planning.    It can be the cheapest or most expensive meal.  The choice is up to you.    NOTE: Prices are for the Northeast area for March 1,  2025 Let’s look at breakfasts that come in at or under $1.00.     Beagle and Cream Cheese ($0.69 per serving) Kroger Prices Bagels (6ct)- $2...
