Hygge in Winter

Hygge (hoo-gah), or well-being originated from Norway, but the Danish adopted this word and transformed it into a way of life that produces a life of happiness and contentment.   People have endured financial, health, and emotional issues unseen in our lifetime.

Hygge encompasses a way of life that slows us down, focuses on what really matters, and helps us to enjoy contentment with far less.  I find that Hygge is a mindset and a way of life that  embarrasses the simple pleasures in life and seeking to increase them which results in increased happiness.

Hygge embarrassed the season and all of the special elements that can only be experienced during this time of year.

Walking through freshly fallen snow with the cold air kissing your face and causing you to snuggle into your jacket, hat, gloves, and scarf.

Coming in from the cold and drinking a hot cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.    It is important to take the time to savor the drink and be present at the moment, so that joy and happiness can be felt.

The Danish love reading and have a tradition surrounding the joy of reading of a family.    So, pick up a good book, get comfortable and read it by a warm fire.

There is nothing better after a long day at work than walking into your home to the smell of dinner being ready.   This experience can only be surpassed when you share it with people you care about.

During winter you can get a unique opportunity to see nature in new ways.   We enjoy the wildlife that walks past our backyard.

As you can see, hygge embarrassed the simple pleasures in life. It cost little to no money to enjoy life and choose to experience contentment and happiness.   Take a page from the Danish and adopt some hygge activities and change your mindset.

What are the simple pleasures that you like and would like to invest the time to enjoy this year?

Since March has 4 weeks, our monthly budget is $757.20.   We elevate our dining experiences by including fresh fruits, vegetables, and higher-quality meats.  Since we have health concerns and are active individuals, we limit our processed food choices.    Grocery Shopping Tip:     Utilize your grocery store’s loyalty program. This month, my 2 primary grocery stores have provided me with store coupons for bread, Silk milk, jelly candy, frozen vegetables, and Bali coconut water.  Here is what we did this week to make our week easier: ...
