Garden Update 2020- Seed Saving

Seed Saving is a skill that takes me back to my youth.   My father was an

engineer by trade and a farmer by heart.   He would take time each year to

carefully select the strongest plants from our garden and save their seeds for the

next year.

Pepper plants are the easiest to save.   All you do is to cut open the plant and

rub the seeds off the pepper and onto a plate.    Once the seeds are dry, then

you store them in a plastic or paper bag for the next year.   Don’t forget to label

them because you will not remember what they are next year.

Tomatoes are a little more challenging.   After cutting open the fruit, then you

scrap them into a container and cover them with water.

Next you cover the container with a paper towel and let it sit for several days.

The bad seeds will float to the top- just scoop them out.    Drain the rest and set

them to dry.

Once the seeds are dry, then you store them in a plastic or paper bag for the

next year.

Don’t forget to label them because you will not remember what they are next

year.

Share with everyone what you are planting this year in the comments below.
